The School of Social Work is exemplary at transforming students into professional advocates, but when it came to advocating for themselves, they needed a little help. Their existing site lacked focus, was missing key content, and wasn’t showcasing their unique programs. Pixo worked closely with the school to help define goals for the site and outfitted them with a new WordPress build, incorporating plugins like Issuu for managing publications and Gravity Forms for building online applications.
CLIENT University of Illinois School of Social Work
The School of Social Work desired to convey their excellence and charge their website with helping to attract the cream of the crop applicants to their program. Pixo developed a cohesive solution, including personal stories that were developed and tested with the target audience. In response to user research, select features were designed to provide students the information they need to gain hands-on experience. The new site facilitates online donations, applications, and social sharing, giving the staff more time to engage with students and showcase their program’s strengths to the world.
Connecting the Social Work Community
The School of Social Work has a vibrant and supportive alumni community. Pixo developed an Alumni section of the site to help them connect, engage, and give back. Developing an online giving portal that connects to the University of Illinois Foundation made it easier for donors to give and for the school’s staff to manage those donations.
Bringing Content to Light
Content strategy took center stage. A large portion of content that the School of Social Work community needed was not on the website. Most of the essential content needed was located in paper brochures and print literature. Pixo brought that content online, exposing it to a larger audience. Unearthing information like course descriptions helped prospective students get a realistic look at what it is like to be a student at the school.
Pixo also helped to bring the three different paper application processes online, streamlining the process and allowing users to easily save and come back to secure forms; making the paper mail-in forms a thing of the past.
A Cohesive Presence, from Print to Pixel
The School of Social Work already had beautiful branding in their print materials and photography. Drawing inspiration from these existing materials, Pixo brought the look and feel online. Photos paired with testimonials help prospective students connect with the School as a place with its own unique voice, identity, and impact.
Did we mention the site works beautifully on desktop, tablet and mobile devices? The site is outfitted with a responsive design, so it can be viewed just as comfortably in the office or out in the field.
