A few weeks ago, Pixo attended the Innovation Celebration 2013.
This celebration has taken place annually since 2006. It is an awards ceremony to recognize the spirit of innovation that is exceptionally present in the Champaign-Urbana community and has grown from 40 to 250 attendees in the past 7 years. You can see a list of all the tweets from the night through the hashtag #inncel2013, but here’s my favorite:
We had special “Pixo Geek” cardigans so we could be spotted in the 250 strong crowd.
Champaign-Urbana has become a microcosm of intellectual innovation and cultural experience normally experienced in places like Silicon Valley. This combination feeds our economy and makes it a great place to work and play, and is a nurturing environment for the entrepreneurial spirit. The capability to have one hand in academia and research while the other is out making real positive change helps to attract even more businesses to our area, as the award winning C.O.D.E. startup notes in their must-watch video.
Our community, which some refer to as “Silicon Prairie”, champions positive economic, social, artistic and business growth. Successful start-ups like Oso, who developed a moisture sensor that enables house plants to “tell you” they’re thirsty deserve the recognition provided by the Innovation Celebration. I encourage you to watch the Champaign Art Council’s videos highlighting each of this year’s winners about their innovations.
Pixo was honored to attend and we are inspired to continue to take risks and push ourselves to explore the possibilities the future holds. Congratulations to all of this year’s winners, listed in this News Gazette article.
